About the Resort
In March 1997, Paul and Patti Hansen bought seven acres of land from a German development company and established the West Coast Wilderness Lodge.
Egmont was chosen for its close proximity to Vancouver and its pristine wilderness setting; its spectacular scenery includes sites such as Chatterbox Falls, Freil Falls and the Skookumchuck Rapids, as well as several beautiful lakes.
The Hansens’ strong background in outdoor recreation and wilderness education led them to design the Lodge as a wilderness retreat which offered schoolchildren and corporate groups the opportunity to learn about and enjoy the beautiful B.C. outdoors.
A 7,000 square foot main lodge was built with a dining room, kitchen, offices, and lounge, as well as five mini-lodges with accommodation for up to eighty guests. West Coast Wilderness Lodge attracted students from many local and international schools, as well as business groups seeking a wilderness corporate retreat.
As Paul and Patti began considering their goals and plans for the Lodge’s future, they identified that the Lodge was well-positioned for the international eco-tourism market. Boutique remote resorts have become a highly sought-after destination by overseas tourists. The Lodge’s close proximity to the Lower Mainland meant it was perfect for corporate retreats, weddings and weekend getaways.
In 2003 the property was re-zoned, existing facilities were remodeled and additional services were added. These include an improved restaurant, front desk, a concierge, and an Adventure Centre that caters to in-house guests and other visitors to the area.
This allowed the Lodge to open up to both international and domestic travelers. As the rooms were enlarged and upgraded into luxury accommodations, occupancy was lowered from 80 to approximately 40 guests.
In 2006 and 2007, the accommodations were remodeled once again with larger bathrooms and the addition of a private balcony for each room. Due to these upgrades, the resort ended 2008 with over 160 international tour providers as partners.
Our fine dining room was recently called “the best waterfront restaurant dining room in this part of the world” by Pacific Yachting Magazine.
As our business depends on Egmont maintaining its environmental beauty and integrity, West Coast Wilderness Lodge is deeply committed to minimizing our impact on the local wilderness and wildlife of the Sunshine Coast.
For example, landscaping is primarily done with indigenous species of trees, shrubs, and plants, with special emphasis on foreshore flora and fauna. The resort will remain a west coast wilderness area that blends in with the natural rock features that flow throughout the property.
Eco-tourism adventures are our niche and we try to help the Sunshine Coast’s economy grow in a sustainable fashion. We have been operating in Egmont for the past twenty years; our resort’s impact on the community has been very positive so far and it will continue to be.

5 months agoDining review only: A great dining experience with a high quality northwest menu and a stunning view. Everything on the 4 course menu looked amazing, and each plate in the presentation was set to impress. A quick 7 min walk from the Back Eddy Marina. Reservations are suggested, even late season.

7 months agoCan’t say enough good things about our wonderful family vacation here. We stayed in the newly opened villas which was absolutely perfect for our family. The villas were clean, spacious, well stocked with all necessary items, and had the most breath taking views. We spent most of our week on the deck because we just didn’t want to leave our gorgeous view. What really stood out to us throughout our trip was how friendly and accommodating every single staff member we encountered was. Lucas the manager was super responsive and helpful in ensuring we were able to book the room we wanted. All of the front desk staff and restaurant staff were amazing. We would absolutely love to come back again. Thank you!

8 months agoWe loved the accommodation. Everything was clean and smelled fresh. We booked this place because it’s pet-friendly, which we really appreciate. But it was confusing and frustrating that the restaurant patio isn’t pet-friendly. Almost every patio in downtown Vancouver allows dogs, and so does this accommodation, so it didn’t make sense that the patio doesn’t. What are people with dogs supposed to do? I didn’t feel comfortable leaving my dog alone in a new place, so she had to wait in the car while we ate. The food at the restaurant was good, though.

6 months agoI didn’t stay as a guest here but you can still dine at the West Coast Wilderness Lodge & enjoy activities at Egmont Adventure Centre! We can’t stop raving about our experience! If only there were more stars. My mind was blown away today, A five star review will never do our experience justice. Everything in BC is beautiful, but Egmont took the cake. Truly the most amazing travel in BC I have ever done. Just a quick 40 min ferry ride from Vancouver and just over an hour drive and you get to the most magical and awe inspiring place in BC. It’s perfect for a unique day trip away from the city.If I could give this trip 100 stars, I absolutely would!! This was hands down the BEST experience in BC that I’ve ever had in my entire life. We were met with the highest level of hospitality. A huge shout-out goes to Lucas and Courtney for their exceptional care and attention…they really elevated the experience to the next level. Getting to see Egmont on the water up close was truly spectacular. These guys run an A+ operation! The staff are all legends and make sure to give you a great experience. You can really tell—they care about every detail and make sure you have the best experience possible. We knew this trip would be amazing, but everything surpassed our expectations! They did everything to make our day special and they succeeded in a big way. I don't know how to thank them for everything they did for us. Unforgettable experience that I will carry in my heart forever. We all had the best times of our lives. Jet skis were top class! We took out the Boss’s Jet Ski and went 96km/hr! We explored some jaw-dropping spots around Hotham Sound like Freil Falls! The location is absolutely stunning, with breathtaking views and pristine waters. It was an exhilarating experience! Such a thrill! We zipped across the waters! Definitely calling you again next time I’m in Egmont to ride the best Jet Skies on the market !! We also enjoyed brunch at the West Coast Wilderness Lodge! The fried chicken and French toast was an iconic duo. The French toast was super fluffy and oh so buttery, and when combined with the crispy and juicy fried chicken, it was seriously a match made in heaven! Creamy avocado, golden toast, and a perfectly poached egg-this was the avocado toast! The avocado toast was smashed to perfection, and layered with flavour. Brunch doesn’t get better than this! Their mocktails were refreshing vibes in every sip! We also participated in the Date Night experience which included a fine dining dinner in The Lodge. The beet carpaccio brings flavour, colour and texture in perfect harmony! I indulged in the exquisite flavour of the sockeye salmon! It boasts a delicate balance of tenderness and rich flavours that melt in your mouth! The beef tenderloin was seared to perfection with a juicy, flavourful interior. It was paired with the creamiest mashed potatoes and perfectly cooked vegetables for that perfect flavour finish. The chocolate lava cake was perfect for satisfying my sweet tooth. We also took the sunset boat tour. This sunset tour was the icing on the cake for our trip to Egmont! So picturesque! The scenery is absolutely breathtaking. The view of the sunset from the boat is simply stunning. The scenic view is well worth the experience. You will experience a sunset you will never forget. An hour of absolute bliss. I felt like james bonds the way these winds caressed my hair. It was a perfect mix of thrill and breathtaking scenery! The whole day felt like a movie and like nothing I’ve ever seen in real life before. We’ll remember this day forever. We were expecting a good time, but our experience went way beyond that. I don’t know how to speak higher of the West Coast Wilderness Lodge. These folks are a class act. The staff members (Lucas and Courtney) were out of this world kind, helpful and courteous. Thank you to the entire staff for making this such an unforgettable experience—I’ll be talking about this trip for the rest of my life!

6 months agoA romantic place for those who love nature – a serene, magical gem by the fjord that you simply must experience. ⛰️ We stayed here for three nights and everything was perfect – quiet, peaceful, very safe, and easy to find. Beautiful summer days, magical sunsets over the fjord, and exquisite dinners every evening. The staff were fantastic, making us feel welcome from the very first moment until our early morning check-out – when they even prepared a small departure breakfast for us before the regular breakfast service began. There are great hiking opportunities nearby. We hiked to Skookumchuck Rapids, rented a kayak at the nearby Egmont Adventure Center, and also enjoyed visiting Egmont Marina and Backeddy Marina Pub – both well worth a stop. And don’t miss the café in the middle of the forest ! 🏞️The Princess Louisa Inlet tour organised by the hotel with Egmont Adventure Center was unforgettable, our captain and guide was truly passionate and made our experience very special. The the breakfast and coffee at the hotel were excellent, and the entire area is both romantic and relaxing. We can’t wait to come back!
