3 weeks agoI had an amazing dining experience at Ballyhoo Restaurant! Our server, Andrea, went above and beyond to make our meal truly special. She was attentive, friendly, and made excellent recommendations. Her cheerful attitude and top-notch service made the evening unforgettable. Highly recommend asking for Andrea when you visit—she’s fantastic! Can’t wait to come back again!

a month agovisited the bar humbug pop-up bar tonight, and had a very disappointing experience. we ordered the ferrero roche old fashioned (bourbon, hazelnut, chocolate, fino sherry, angostura, orange oil, and ferrero roche are listed as ingredients in the cocktail) and another drink. but we were served a shockingly pale old fashioned instead. we asked the waitress why the drink looked so pale (unlike the photos seen online) to which she explained that they were out of chocolate bitters and that it was basically still the same drink. aren’t bitters a pretty important part of an old fashioned? then, she proceeded to ask, “you’ve had an old fashioned before, right?” yes, i’ve had an old fashioned before. which is why this looks like nothing i’ve ever had! she mostly ignored us the rest of the night, checking on her other tables but walking past ours without so much a glance. she did stop by one time though, to ask if we had any last order. well, we were a party of four that only ordered two drinks, so fine, whatever. two in our group left after we finished our drinks and the other two of us waited to get the check. she walked past multiple times without glancing at our table. we eventually caught her attention and got the check, but this was annoying as well. overall, frustrating experience and i unfortunately won’t be back. such a pity since i was so excited to check out bar humbug after all i had seen online.

2 months agoThey have a really decent craft/local beer selection and seems like a decent deal for happy hour. Bar seating tends to fill up during HH but not sure if HH applies to other seating. Recently tried the $15 pizza and beer special. Beer is limited to the parallel lager but you can choose any pizza. Somehow the pizza that comes out looking different than in the pics on their app/website. Was expecting a fresh out of the 900 degree oven “Neapolitan style” pizza but what my friend called “is it microwaved?” came out instead. Tastes ok but I wouldn’t go here for the pizzas based on my experience.

4 months agoBallyhoo Public House has been my number one go-to bar for over two years now, and for good reason. The service is always top-notch, the drinks are consistently great, and the pool table is one of the best in town. Whether I'm there for a casual night out or to unwind after a long day, Ballyhoo never disappoints. Special shoutout to the steam buns—they're absolutely delicious and a must-try! If you're in Vancouver and looking for a great spot, Ballyhoo Public House is the place to be.

6 months agoI recently had a very disappointing experience at Ballyhoo Bar in Vancouver. My friends and I, all of whom are of South Asian descent, decided to visit the bar. We had 2 friends who are 19, (one born in 2004 and one in 2005) and despite ‘properly checking our IDs’, the staff incorrectly claimed we had one underage individual in our group(specifically pointing out the guest with a YOB of 2004) . This shows a clear lack of attention to detail on their part. What made the situation even worse was the feeling that we were being racially profiled. Although we showed them our ids again and did the math for them, it felt like the staff targeted us simply because of our ethnicity, which is completely unacceptable. You hear about racial profiling all the time but you don’t feel it until it happens to you. This should never be tolerated, especially in a place that should be welcoming and inclusive. Overall, our experience at Ballyhoo Bar was unpleasant and unfair. I have never been treated this way and would not recommend this establishment to anyone who values fair treatment and respect. I’ve attached a picture of the staff that treated us this way.
